\n<\/strong>Contest to win a Hockey book by author Stephen Smith: PUCKSTRUCK –\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Distracted, Delighted and Distressed by Canada’s Hockey Obsession<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As we all wait and watch as the 2020-21 hockey season passes us by, we thought that maybe a contest could help cheer us up a bit. So here it \u00a0is:<\/p>\n

Simply send us a hockey story (Poem, song, short story) or artwork (Drawing, painting)<\/p>\n

The story or artwork can be about anything HOCKEY. A memory, a story, a poem, a drawing about your favourite team….anything creative!<\/p>\n

Open to all HWI members and all ages, kids to adults.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will select the best and draw the winner from that group. Spread the word! More contest to follow.<\/p>\n

About the author:<\/p>\n

Puckstruck<\/em> is an undertaking of Stephen Smith\u2019s. His stories about five-dollar bills and boy travel writers have appeared in Geist<\/em> and McSweeney\u2019s<\/em>. Like legendary Montreal Canadiens\u2019 winger Bob Gainey, he was born in Peterborough, Ontario, and took to the ice at an early age, where he soon failed to follow Gainey to the NHL. While his enthusiasm was never in doubt \u2014 a coach once worried that with his headlong approach to the game, he was going to injure himself \u2014 he won none of the Stanley Cups that Gainey collected, and no Conn Smythe trophies, not a one.<\/p>\n

An award-winning reporter and sometime columnist, he sometimes refers to himself in the third-person. He has\u00a0contributed to The New York Times<\/em>,\u00a0The Globe and Mail<\/em>, Canadian Geographic<\/em>, The Toronto Star<\/em>, the Montreal Gazette<\/em>,\u00a0The Walrus<\/em>, The Literary Review of Canada<\/em>, The Kingston Whig-Standard<\/em>,\u00a0The Hockey News<\/em>, Saturday Night<\/em>,\u00a0Quill & Quire<\/em>, Outside<\/em>, and The New York Times<\/em> Magazine<\/em>. He has a\u00a0book, too, also called\u00a0Puckstruck<\/a><\/em>. It\u2019s his first. He shoots left.<\/p>\n
