Responsibilities of the Head Coach
  • Establish seasonal goals and objectives for the team.
  • Be a role model for your players and exhibit appropriate behaviour towards officials, other coaches, and other players.
  • Develop leadership abilities in young players.
  • Meet with parents of players at the preseason meeting to outline philosophies, ice time, playing time and other important aspects of the season.
  • Demonstrate a sincere effort in helping each player maximize his or her potential.
  • Develop age- and level-appropriate skills using the proper sequences and progressions and using understandable language.
  • Recognize that players differ in their ways of learning and readiness to learn.
  • Plan effective practices.
  • In conjunction with the Association, select support staff that who will provide the maximum benefit to you and your players.
  • Review a safety action plan with your bench staff, manager, and team Safety Person.
  • Ensure that all ice and dressing room activities have adult supervision.
  • Report any issues and concerns to the Executive to ensure that Association can assist in the resolution of difficulties at an early stage, and improve overall hockey program on an ongoing basis.
